6. Ending the Korean War | 한국전쟁의 종식
Issue:
From June 25, 1950, through July 27, 1953, the Korean Peninsula became the first battleground of the Cold War. The death toll from the three-year conflict resulted in 1.2 million South Korean deaths, 1 million North Korean deaths, 36,500 U.S. troop deaths, and 600,000 Chinese troop deaths.
On July 27, 1953, North Korea, China, and the United States signed the Armistice Agreement for the Restoration of the South Korean State unofficially ending the Korean War. The armistice created the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and ended hostilities in Korea by armed forces. Since a peace treaty has never been signed between the North and South Korean government, the war technically continues to this day.
There have been constant armed conflicts along the DMZ between North and South Korea which continues to heighten tensions between the two governments. During the Korean War, millions of families were separated and to this day cannot meet their family members who live across the DMZ. Additionally, tensions continue to heighten due to North Korea’s development of nuclear weapons.
What we need:
To bring peace in the region and make the Korean Peninsula nuclear free, we need a peace treaty that will officially end the Korean War and reset the relationship between North Korea, South Korea, and the United States.
H.R.3446 To review current restrictions on travel to North Korea, call for a formal end to the Korean War, and for other purposes.
On May 20, 2021, Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA) introduced H.R. 3446 which mandates the Secretary of States to review and report current restrictions on travel to North Korea within 180 days. The bill also calls for a formal end to the Korean War.
What we are asking:
We ask President Biden to actively negotiate with North Korea and South Korea to end the Korean War and bring peace and prosperity in the northeast region by removing the nuclear threat of North Korea.
Support H.R. 3446 to end the Korean War and bring Peace and Prosperity in the Korean Peninsula.
Your participation is necessary. Please contact President Biden, Vice-President Harris, and your federal elected officials to ask them to begin negotiating a peace treaty that will officially end the Korean War.
