The Korean American Voters’ Council (KAVC) is running a campaign to support the Redistricting Reform Act of 2011, proposed by New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo last week. On Feb. 21, KAVC sent petitions to New York State senators via fax. On the 23rd, KAVC sent petitions to 33 senators that pledged to sign for the act but did not cosponsor it.

On February 24th, the Council of Korean Churches of Greater New York (Rev. David Kim, President) sent a letter to KAVC urging legislators to act on supporting this act. The KAVC sent this letter to legislators (33 Senators, 83 Assemblymen) that have pledged, but haven’t signed the bill yet via fax.

The Korean American Association of Queens and Manhattan also sent letters asking for immediate action, and KAVC plans to send these letters to the legislators by this weekend.

In order to send your petition to urge your local legislator, go to www.nyuprising.org and click “Tell Albany To Act Fast.”
