Petition Drive – Alternate Side Parking Regulations

by kace

On July 14, 2009, the KAVC Summer Interns headed out to collect petition signatures and written complaints from local small businesses along Northern Boulevard.

Around 11 o’clock, Kijae Kim, Jae Han Kim, Sosung Kim, and Jiwoo Lee went to East bound stores from 147th Street to Union Street. They visited 32 stores and collected signatures from patrons as well as left petition forms for the store owners and customers to sign. All of the stores had positive reactions toward the petition and what it is asking. Because of strict parking regulations during the times of 4 PM to 7 PM, small businesses lose out on a great deal of business due to the lack of accessibility to their stores from the lack of parking in the areas. To make matters worse, the local law enforcement end up blocking more traffic as they try to enforce these rules. The petition call for less restrictive parking regulations, perhaps shorting the time of no parking from 5 PM to 7 PM or abolishing the restrictions all together.

They came back around 12:30 and printed another 50 copies of the petition and went out at 1 o’clock with Samuel Kim. Around 2:30, Jihyung Kim and Kwangmin Lee joined the petitioners.

A total of 63 signatures were collected in the first run of this campaign. Hopefully we will be able to collect more during the week.
