뉴욕친구교회 유권자 등록 및 투표 참여 캠패인 (KACE Voter Registration Drive at Friends Church 2.19.2023)
시민참여센터는 2우러 19일 친구교회를 방문하여 2023년 유권자 등록과 투표참여 그리고 고등학생 여름 인턴쉽 모집을 하였다.
2023년 뉴욕주 예비선거는 6월 27일이고 유권자 등록 마감일은 6월 17일 토요일이다.
이번 예비선거는 선거구 재조정에 따라서 뉴욕시 시의원 전원을 다시 선출하는 선거로 뉴욕시의 시의원만 선출하기 때문에 투표율이 지극히 낮을 수 밖에 없기에 이번 선거는 핵심 지지기반이 튼튼한 정치인들에게 절대적으로 유리할 수 밖에 없다.
On February 19, 2023, KACE visited Friends Church in New York to conduct a Voter Registration Drive, and also provided information about the 2023 KACE Grassroots Internship Program (more information about the KACE Grassroots Internship Program Here).
The 2023 New York State Primary Election is on June 27, 2023, and the deadline to register to vote is Saturday, June 17, 2023.
This primary election is an election where New York City Councilmembers are re-elected according to the redistricting of the electoral district. Since only New York City Council members are elected, the turnout is expected to inevitably be extremely low, meaning this election will be advantageous to candidates with a strong core support base.
이런 분들은 반드시 유권자 등록을 하여야 한다.
1. 처음 시민권을 받은 분들
2. 유권자 등록을 했어도 이사를 하신분들
3. 정당 변경을 원하시는 분들
4. 결혼등으로 성이나 이름이 빠뀐분들
5. 선거일 기준으로 만 18세 이상이 되는 분들
한인 유권자 데이터를 분석하면 30세 이하 만 18세 이상의 인구가 절대적으로 많지만 유독 한인들만 가장 낮은 등록율을 보이고 있다. 이런 이유는 영어권 한인 젊은층들이 부모나 자기들이 만나는 집단에서 미국 시민으로서의 의무로서 유권자 등록에 대한 대화가 상당히 부족하다는 것이다. 한인사회가 앞으로 10년을 내다보고 정치력 신장을 비롯한 권익을 향상하기 위한 집단의 힘을 키우는데서 가장 중요한 것이 30세 이하 젊은층들의 유권자 등록 노력이다.
한편 시민참여센터는 2023년도 인턴쉽 프로그램에 참여할 인턴들을 모집하고 있다.

We urge the following types of people to register to vote sooner rather than later:
1. Those that received citizenship recently.
2. Those that recently moved should update their voter registration to reflect their new address.
3. Those that wish to change political parties.
4. Those that changed their names (i.e. last name due to marriage, etc.).
5. Those that will be turning 18 by Election Day.
Upon analyzing recent voter data, there is no question that the population of persons ages 18-30 have a majority of the population. However, the Korean Americans show very low registration rates among that same age group that are eligible to vote. One reason for this is that there is a significant lack of conversations about voter registration and the importance of voting as a responsible American citizen among young English-speaking Korean Americans with their parents and social groups. As such, the most important thing for the Korean community to work on over the next 10 years is to get young people under the age of 30 to register to vote.
