팰리사이드 파크 위안부 기림비 말뚝테러 기자회견

성명서
오늘 아침(2012년 10월 26일) 팰리세이드 파크에 일본군 위안부 기림비에 말뚝 테러가 발생했습니다. 테러의 방식이나 말뚝과 팻말의 내용을 볼때에 지난번 서울에서 발생한 말뚝 테러사 건과 동일한 것으로 추정됩니다.
팰리세이드 파크에 일본군 위안부 기림비는 평화를 사랑하고 인권을 옹호하는 시민들의 마음과 뜻을 합한 시민들의 재산입니다. 오늘 이와 같은 테러가 발생한 것에 모든 시민은 경악을 금치 못하고 있습니다. ‘일본군위안부기림비’는 한국계 미국시민을 포함한 전체 미국시민의 소중한 뜻이 담겨있는 펠팍시정부의 재산입니다. 때문에 그동안 펠팍의 시 당국은 기림비를 훼손하려는 일본측의 여러차례의 어떠한 시도에도 아주 단호하고 명백하게 시민들의 뜻을 옹호해 왔고 그리고 우리는 그것을 아주 자랑스럽게 생각해 왔습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 또 다시 이러한 말뚝테러를 감행한 것은 펠팍시에게 뿐만 아니라 전체 미국시민들을 향한 야만적인 테러임에 분명합니다.
일본군위안부결의안을 추진하고 , 기림비를 건립하는 일을 추진하고 있는 시민참여센타는 리는 오늘 이와같은 야만적인 테러행위를 규탄하며 동시에 이 말뚝테러 사건의 경위와 범인을 조속한 시일내에 맹백하게 밝혀내고 색출해 줄 것을 사법당국에 요청하는 바입니다. 펠팍의 시당국이 범인 색출에 최선을 다할 것에는 조금도 의심의 여지가 없으며 색출된 범인은 반드시 펠팍의 기림비앞에서 무뤂을 꿇고 사죄를 해야 할것이다. 또한 일본정부 차원에서 이러한 반인권적인 행위를 사전에 방지하도록 자국국민을 교육하지 않은 것에 대한 사과를 할것을 강력히 요청합니다. 시민참여센터는 반드시 그렇게 하도록 우리는 한인 동포들을 포함한 일반 시민들, 그리고 우리를 대표하는 정치인들 뿐만 아니라 시민사회의 인권기관들과 함께 끝까지 노력할 것입니다.
평화와 인권을 옹호하는 우리들은 어떠한 방해와 테러에도 굴하지 않고 일본군위안부 문제 뿐만 아니라 일본의 어떠한 야만적인 행태에 관해서도 일반 시민들과 함께 단호하게 대처해 나갈 것입니다.

2012년 10월 26일 팰리세이드 파크 일본군 위안부 기림비에 말뚝 테러가 발생했다. 테러의 방식이나 말뚝과 팻말에 내용을 볼때에 지난번 서울에서 발생한 말뚝 테러사건과 동일하다.

현재 펠리세이드 파크 정부와 경찰국이 사건 경위와 범인확보에 대한 조사를 하고 있다고 밝혔다.

이 사건을 알게된 여러 지역 정치인들은 경악을 금치 못하고 있다.
뉴저지 연방 하원의원 빌 파스크렐은 아래 발언을 했다.
"I am appalled to learn of this morning's defiling of the Comfort Women memorial in Palisades Park. This disrespectful act contradicts everything this memorial stands for – human rights and peace. Although the violence against the comfort women occurred many years ago, their wounds have yet to heal. I strongly condemn any hateful acts against the Korean American community and I hope the perpetrators are expeditiously brought to justice."
뉴욕주 상원의원 토니 아벨라는 아래 발언을 했다.
"It is extremely disturbing to learn of the defilement of the Comfort Women Memorial in Palisades Park. This Memorial, being the first Comfort Women memorial in the United States, was dedicated to Korean women who were captured and coerced into sexual slavery and extreme forms of violence by the Japanese military. The Memorial symbolizes their suffering and serves as a reminder of the crime against humanity committed through the Comfort Women system. There should be a thorough investigation of this matter. As I stated in my previous letter to the Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, I call upon the Japanese government to give their sincere apology to the remaining victims, who are living with the anguish from the memories of the torture they suffered."
뉴욕주 하원의원 그레이스 멩은 아래 발언을 했다.
"It is heartbreaking to learn that the Comfort Women Memorial in Palisades Park was vandalized. We must never forget those women who were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military during World War II. As an advocate of women’s rights, it is critically important to me that we identify the perpetrators, remind them of the sufferings that these women endured and bring them to justice."
뉴욕시 의원 피터 쿠는 아래 발언을 했다.
"It is unfortunate that individuals would deface a memorial that has come to mean so much to so many. This cowardly act of vandalism, however, has strengthened my resolve and increased my determination to have a street renaming and memorial that honors comfort women."
