Following 8 months of internship, Korean American Voters’ Council’s New York interns received Presidential Volunteer’s Service Awards, commendations from Congressman Gary Ackerman, New York State Assemblywoman Grace Meng, and City Councilman Peter Koo.
During this internship, 7 interns earned over 250 hours each, 5 interns earned over 175 hours, and 5 interns earned over 100 hours.
The interns reviewed their past activities, confirmed their understanding of grassroots activities, and vowed to do their best to help their community. The interns held voter registration drives and collected over 500 surveys created to gain an understanding of how other ethnic groups think of Korean Americans.
Also, to overcome the economic depression, the interns participated in the “Buy Local, Shop Smart” campaign and presented the project to various local politicians.
