On October 19th, 2011, the Korean American Voters’ Council (KAVC) held a civic academy session at AWCA in Teaneck, NJ. About 200 Koreans attended this session. The session was about the upcoming November general elections and urged Korean Americans to participate.

This general election is the first election to be held after redistricting of District 37 in April. KAVC President Dongchan Kim reminded the attendees that although politicians’ interest in the Korean community has increased, low voter turnouts will turn it away and that it will be difficult for Koreans to fend for their rights, hence voting is of the absolute necessity.

Assistant Program Director Nuri Han introduced the mail-by-vote procedures and distributed the registration forms.

Mail by vote forms sent via mail must arrive at the Board of Elections by November 1st. If the form is delivered in person, it must be delivered to the Board of Elections by November 7th, 3PM.

Candidates for the November general election in NJ District 37 were introduced.

The Korean American Voters’ Council holds civic academy sessions regularly to help Koreans vote and participate in their community. Wherever Korean Americans gather, the KAVC can hold sessions. If the civic academy session is desired by your organization, please contact KAVC at 718-961-4117.
