On August 10th, 2011, the Korean American Voters’ Council held a workshop regarding Census data with Jamal Baksh from the US Census Bureau. Baksh first made a presentation to educate the attendees about the Census, and demonstrated how to use the Census Bureau website and Factfinder2.

Census is taken every 10 years and the next census will be in year 2020. During the nine years leading up to the next census, the Bureau will be conducting the American Community Survey. “The American Community Survey will deal with social and economic information that the regular census does not provide,” explained Baksh.

The Census Bureau also developed Factfinder2, which will provide users with more efficient search engine than the preceding program. Factfinder2 is a system that provides various statistics and demographics along with the American Community Survey. Right now they are working on transferring the information from Factfinder to Factfinder2. “Factfinder2 allows easier search by putting the information in categories,” added Baksh.
