On Tuesday, August 2, 2011, Korean American Voters’ Council (KAVC) New Jersey interns and volunteers Hyunjee Song, James Park, Jisoo Park, Ji-Sung Kim, Lauren Chung, Ted Kim, and Wendy Choi traveled to Closter for a voter registration campaign. Joining them were internship coordinators Minji Kim and Alex Lee and Assistant Program Director Nuri Han. For the campaign, interns politely asked people whether they were U.S. citizens and were over 18 years old, the prerequisites for voter registration eligibility, and if they were, whether or not they would like to register to vote. Starting from 3:30 PM and ending at 6:00 PM, the interns and volunteers were only able to register six Closter residents. However, although the KAVC interns had a difficult time registering voters, they learned that going for the extra effort makes it more worthwhile and gives a feeling of satisfaction.
