KAVC Expresses Condolences Regarding Shooting Spree in Tucson, AZ

On January 10th, the Korean American Voters’ Council expressed its condolences regarding the shooting of Representative Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona. The statement was faxed to Rep. Giffords’ office in Washington, DC.
Korean Americans Offers Condolences on Arizona Shooting Spree
(NEW YORK) On behalf of the Korean American Community, the Korean American Voters’ Council (KAVC) offers its sincere condolences to all those killed or injured and their family members in the shooting spree in Arizona.
We mourn the loss of six people including a federal judge and a 9-year-old girl. We also hope and pray for quick recovery of the injured, especially Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
Mr. Dongsuk Kim, an executive board member of KAVC, said: “It is a tragedy to all Americans. We offer our heartfelt condolences to all those killed or injured. We hope that this tragedy does not have any negative impact on our proud tradition of a democratic political system in which elected officials actively reach out to their constituents to hear from them.”
Mr. Dongchan Kim, president of KAVC, said: “Still, we do not know what the suspect’s intention was. However, what is clear is that this horrible act of violence was an attack on our democracy. We should reject all extreme partisanships. In our political system, you can express your opinion only by participating in the political process. In light of this, we should continue to make efforts to resolve our differences without resorting to violence.”
