On August 18, New York’s KAVC and CEMC (Central Election Management Committee) came together for the 7th voting machine demonstration for Korean American seniors at Roosevelt Island. This day’s event progressed due to the cooperation of Lee, KyuGon; Director of Senior Voters’ Association Branch at Roosevelt Island.

Starting at 6 P.M., the demonstration regarding the use of the new voting machine took place at the apartment for Korean American seniors. First, New York CEMC’s Brian Cooper explained the process, and KAVC representative Kim, DongChan, and volunteers helped the Korean American seniors and demonstrated how to use the new voting machine on person at a time.

At Roosevelt Island, Korean American seniors gained interest in using the machine to fill in their forms.

This day’s KAVC volunteers were SungJu Jang (Great Neck South, 12), SungHo Jang (Baruch College), HyunMin Jo (GIT College), who were involved in explaining the new process of voting with one senior at a time.

KAVC’s 8th voting machine demonstration is scheduled to take place at the KCD Education Center on September 10, from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. For any voters that wish to learn how to operate the voting machines before NYC’s primary elections, on September 14, this is their last chance.

It is simple once you understand the new voting method, but for those who are participating with mechanical voting for the first time, they can be quite embarrassed. The introduction of the voting machine of NYC & Nassau County is similar to the model that was introduced in Palm Beach, Florida a few years ago, which was pretty confusing. At the time, many seniors took about 2 hours to vote because they were unable to understand the voting method.

This situation, which was identified by KAVC, resulted in the creation of 7 demonstrations and will take part in one more on Friday, September 10, before the primary election, which is on September 14th.
