www.kavc.orgFrom September 26-27, 2009, the Korean American Voters’ Council (KAVC) organized a massive voter registration drive at the “Chu-suk” Festival in Flushing Meadows Park, NY.

Through the course of the campaign KAVC registered 97 new Korean American voters for New York, and 6 new voters for New Jersey. KAVC also took in applications for 9 new Korean interpreters to be trained and deployed for the upcoming General Elections. KAVC also set up a booth to help answer questions about the upcoming elections and voting rights and regulations.

It seems that there was much confusion in regards to the upcoming Run-off Elections which will be held on September 29, 2009 and the General Elections which will be on November 3, 2009. Run-off elections are held when no candidate receives the majority vote of 40 percent during the primaries. The top two candidates are then set to run in a run-off election to decide the representative for the party for the General Election.

This year there will be a run-off for the New York City Comptroller position and the New York Public Advocate

The Deadline for voting registration for New York is Oct. 9th 2009. If there are any citizens who did not register to vote, or need to change their current address, please call the Korean American Voter’s Council Hot Line (718) 961-4117 right away. Otherwise, go to our website www.kavc.org and download the voter registration form and drop it off in the nearby mailbox.
