On Tuesday, August 18, 2009, the Korean American Voters’ Council was honored to host a brief grassroots strategy session with Lee, Cheng-yi, Director of the Department of Social Movement, Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan.
Set up through a special program from the US Department of the State, Mr. Lee was visiting various grassroots and civic organizations across the United States, learning about the electoral process and learning about grassroots strategies and ways to efficiently work for the future of the community.
After a quick presentation about the history of KAVC and its accomplishments, Mr. Lee presented a priceless artifact from the progressive democratic movement of Taiwan’s past, back when the land bore the name Formosa. Mr. Dong-chan Kim was presented with the four vintage issues of the democratic magazine publication, sealed in plastic, that was used back in the day and eventually banned by the opposing party at the time.
