On Wednesday, May 27, 2009, the Korean American Voters’ Council student volunteer group continued their voter registration initiative at a local H-Mart located on Union Street in Flushing. KAVC student volunteers have been going out every Wednesday and Friday to local community hotspots to register voter and inform the citizens about upcoming elections.
In in effort to bolster the number of registered Asian American voters and also inform the community on the upcoming elections within their areas, in particular Council District 19 and 20, in which both districts there will be a Korean American candidate. Other noteworthy positions up for election this year include New York City Mayor and New York City Public Advocate.
The student volunteers assisted citizens to register to vote, register name and address changes, and answer various questions about the registering and election process, as well as the positions and candidates for upcoming elections.
To be eligible to vote in the upcoming Primary Election on September 15, 2009, you must have filled out and sent in your registration form before August 21, 2009. Due to the closed primary election format of New York, you MUST be registered in the political party you wish to participate in during the Primary Elections.
