New Jersey Gubernatorial Elections (2 positions)
The Governor is directly elected by the voters to become the political and ceremonial head of the sovereign state. The governor performs the executive functions of the state, and is not directly subordinate to the federal authorities.

The Lieutenant Governor will take office for the first time in January 2010 as this position was created as the result of a Constitutional amendment to the New Jersey State Constitution passed by the voters on November 8, 2005 and effective as of January 17, 2006.

New Jersey General Assembly (80 positions)
The Assembly consists of 80 members. Two members are elected from each of New Jersey’s 40 legislative districts for a term of two years, elected every odd-numbered year in November, each representing districts. Several members of the Assembly hold other elective office.

New Jersey Local Elected Positions (Local Mayors, Freeholders)
A freeholder is a legislator on the county level. Depending on the county, the executive and legislative functions may be performed by the Board or split. In some counties, members of the Board of Chosen Freeholders perform both legislative and executive functions on a commission basis, while in others there is a directly-elected County Executive who performs the executive functions while the Board of Chosen Freeholders retains a legislative and oversight role.
