Representative Rangel Promises Co-Sponsorship of H. Res. 121

by kace

On March 10th, 2007, the Korean American Voters’ Council (KAVC), along with other local Korean American organizations, met with Representative Charles B. Rangel at the New York Presbyterian Church to discuss the importance of H. Res. 121 and deliver more than 5000 petition signatures.

Representative Charles B. Rangel is 19th-term Democrat from New York and resides over New York’s 15th district. He is also the founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus Spouses and is an active member of the newly created Korean Caucus.

Representative Rangel was already informed of this resolution but was amazed by the turnout of signatures and letters, clearly showing the great importance this human and women’s rights issue has with the community.

Although there was some obvious detractors which tried to prevent this meeting with Representative Rangel and the delivering the signatures, Director of Constituency Services Chejin Park, Esq. and the President of the Korean American Association of Flushing Esther Lee went above and beyond to ensure the voice of the community, manifested in the form of signatures, was delivered. Their dedication shows how the voice of the community cannot and will not be stifled.

At the end of the meeting, Representative Rangel was quoted saying, “My name will be on the co-sponsor list by Monday”.
