On March 23, 2011, Bergen County Clerk Elizabeth (Lisa) Randall visited the Korean American Voters’ Council and held a press conference.  This event was aimed at demonstrating the Korean Bergen County website that she was pushing for ever since her election. Randall said that the Korean website was created to cater to Korean Americans residing in Bergen County, and to help them use the government’s services and communicate with them. The site’s address is www.co.bergen.nj.us/countyclerk.

The website offers services from the County Clerk’s office in Korean, and elaborately describes election schedules, voting methods, absentee ballots, and other essential information.

KAVC President Dongchan Kim said, “Several weeks ago, I had a meeting with Ms. Randall and talked about how it would be great to have a website that includes a tutorial for absentee ballots and other essential information. And Ms. Randall used a lot of resources to update the website immediately and created a Flash movie that demonstrates the absentee ballot process.” He also added that this website will aid Korean Americans greatly with the advent of the school board elections.

County Clerk Randall said, “Absentee ballots are convenient because you can vote at any time, which will be useful for workers and Koreans with small businesses. However, if the procedure is not done correctly, there is a possibility that the vote will be void. Therefore, it is absolutely essential that the instructions on the site must be followed.”

County Clerk Randall is the successor of Kathleen Donovan, and came into position this year and she will run for the Bergen County Clerk position in the November elections. County Clerk Randall was the Commissioner of the Board of Public Utilities, served as a New Jersey Assemblywoman (1985-1991), and served as the Commissioner of Banking and Insurance (1994-1998).
