Invitation for Candidate Forum of District 19, 20

On October 21, 2009, the Korean American Voters’ Council (KAVC) and the Organization of Chinese Americans, Long Island Chapter, (OCA-LI) met together in an effort to organize an Open Candidate Forum for Council District 19 and 20. The Korean American Association, Korean American of New York Association, Business Council Association, Senior Center Association will also be co-sponsoring this forum along with KAVC and OCA-LI.

Slated for the evening of October 21, this Open Forum will be organized in an effort to help educate the community on the local candidates running for City Council in Districts 19 and 20, provide a platform for the community to ask questions to the candidates directly, and help bolster voter turnout.

A press conference will be held on October 19 with details on the format and proceedings of the Forum.

Democrat Candidate Kevin Kim and Republican Candidate Daniel Halloran for District 19, and Democrat Candidate Yen Cho, Republican candidate Peter Koo, and Green Party candidate Evergreen Chow for District 20 will all be presented at the Forum.

KAVC Staff Attorney Chejin Park, Esq. explained and emphasized that “this forum is not prepared to back up a specific candidate, it is prepared to help the voters to easily decide who to choose for the upcoming general election in Nov, 3. This forum will let voters to directly question and discuss the matter of community’s future from each candidates who will soon become the community’s next city council.

The Korean American of New York Association Chair Seung Lae Lee explained, “To make achievement in the candidate forum, depends on whether or not how much Korean American voters will be participating on the event. If Korean-Americans show their interest and support this day, the whomever candidate that becomes our next city council will definitely listen to our Korean community’s voice even more.” With that, he requested for many participation on the upcoming forum.

On Oct 19, 2009, NY/NJ Korean American Voter’s Council Attorney Chejin Park, Chief Director Dong Chan Kim, The Korean American of New York Association Chair Seung Lae Lee, Flushing Community Senior Center President Hyung Bin Im, The Korean American Association Planning Vice President Paul Lee, Organization of Chinese Association-Long island chapter manager Gladys Yan, and The Korean American Business Council of NY Chair Myung Suk Lee are together planning for the upcoming Running City Council Candidates Forum for District 19, 20 in open center on Oct 21.
