뉴욕 정치인들, 한인사회에게 “고노 담화 재검증 보고서”를 규탄하는 발언 전달

2014년 7월 11일, 한인들이 밀집한 퀸즈 지역의 정치인들이 일본 정부가 발표한 “고노 담화 재검증 보고서”를 규탄하는 발언을 시민참여센터에게 전달하였다. 

뉴욕 주 상원의원 토비 앤 스타비스키

“고노 담화의 수정하려는 일본 국회의원들의 움직임은 나와 내 지역구에 거주하는 한인 사회에게 불안감을 안겨주고 있다. 일본 정부가 하루빨리 역사적 사실을 인정하고 희생자들에게 사과를 하길 바란다. 일본이 역사적 사실을 은폐하고 희생자들을 외면하는 것은 그릇된 행동이다.”

"The attempt by certain members of the Japanese parliament to backtrack and undermine the credibility of the Kono Statement is deeply troubling to me and the Korean American community in my district. I hope that the Japanese government will continue to acknowledge the historical facts and reiterate their remorse to the victims. The Japanese government is wrong in not acknowledging and expressing regret for the treatment of the so-called "comfort women.""

"일본 정부가 고노 담화 재검증 보고서를 발표했다는 사실이 몹시 유감스럽다. 일본 정부는 제 2차 세계대전 때 일본군이 저지른 만행에 대한 책임을 져야 하며, 일본 정부가 고노 담화를 수정하지 않기를 희망한다."

"It is disappointing that the Japanese government has decided to undermine the credibility of the Kono Statement in its recent investigation and report. It is important for Japan to accept responsibility for the atrocities that its Armed Forces committed during World War II, and I am hopeful that the Japanese government will not revise the Kono Statement."

I sincerely hope that the Japanese government will turn from its current stance and take responsibility for the war crimes that it has committed during the World War II.​"

"6월 20일, 일본 정부가 고노 담화 재검증 보고서를 발표했다. 이 보고서는 고노 담화를 한일간 외교적 타협의 산물로 해석해버리고 제 2차 세계대전에 징용됐던 위안부의 강제성을 부정하고 있다. 다수의 희생자가 아직까지 생존하고 있는 만큼, 일본 정부가 과거에 저지른 전쟁 범죄에 대해 인정하고 책임을 지는 모습을 보여줬으면 좋겠다."

“On June 20, the Japanese government unveiled its investigation report on the Kono Statement of 1993, which argued that the statement was a result of diplomatic negotiation between South Korea and Japan. The report undermines the Japanese government’s original admission regarding the use of “comfort women,” or sex slaves, for its Armed Forces during World War II. It is my hope that the Japanese government agrees to take some responsibility for these alleged war crimes, as many of the victims are still alive today.”
